How (14), wool has always been the mo (15) important source of income for Australian farmers. Sheep and cattle farming are widespread in Australia, though the country is perhaps bet (16) known for its native animals, such a (17) the kangaroo and koala. There are even snowfields in some higher southern parts of the country, th (18) the ski season is quite short.

In ad (19) to the diversity of the land, there is considerable diversity among the Australian people. Australia is proud of its achievements as a multicultural nation, wh(23) people are free to maintain their own la (24) and culture and practise their own religion.

Although it is not tr (25) to say that all Australians are tall, sun-tanned surfers, sport and recreation play an important p (26) in their lives. The mainly fine, dry climate makes it pos (27) for Australians to spend much of their free time outdoors, enjoying open-air activities. The Aussie barbeque is typical of the casual way in which people like to get tog (28) with their friends.

People around the world who watched the opening and closing ceremonies of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games had an opportunity to see for them (29) the many sides and faces of Australia - the land and the ocean, and the inhab (30) , old and new.
